Peter
Beaton Opticians
is an independent optometric practice located in the south side of Glasgow
(click here for a map). Owner/Optician Peter
Beaton BSc. (Hons). MCOptom. graduated from Glasgow in 1986, and worked
for several independent and national opticians before becoming a Specsavers
franchisee in 1989. He sold this successful practice in order to settle
in Glasgow and open an optical practice of his own. The Rutherglen practice
has been open for 3 years now, with the emphasis firmly on quality of
eyecare, service and value for money.
As well as all the usual eye examination equipment that one would expect
to find in a modern optometric practice, we are fairly unique in that
we have invested in a digital Retinal Camera which photographs the inside
of the eye. This provides an instant high quality image which can identify
a number of potentially serious eye conditions, and storage of the image
on hard disc allows instant comparison in future years - a very useful
clinical tool in any case, and especially for people with Diabetes.
Contact lenses form a large part of our daily workload. Most of our
contact lens patients choose to take advantage of our Disposable Contact
Lens packages. A regular monthly payment by standing order covers the
cost of lenses at agreed intervals (typically every month or 3 months)
as well as the solutions and all consultation fees. The fact that most
Opticians include consultation fees in their packages can mean that
comparing the cost of the lenses with those available on the net doesn't
look so good. However, we realised that if we separate out the consultation
fees and charge separately for them, we are actually selling the same
lenses for less than the big Internet companies!
So we offer everything that the 'big' companies offer, and it costs
you less, and we are a normal working optometric practice, so that if
you can get to Glasgow, we can actually look after your eyes as well!
